Usage Guidelines - Privacy Policy

The Iowa Department of Transportation recognizes the importance of protecting the privacy of information collected on our Web site.

You do not have to provide personal information to visit our Web site or download information. However, when you do visit our site, we may collect the following information to measure the number of visitors to the different sections of our site, and to help us make our site more useful to visitors:

  • the name of the domain from which you access the Internet (e.g., aol.com, if you are using an America Online account)
  • the date and time you access our site
  • the pages that you visit while on our site
We will only collect personal information from you that is necessary for us to provide the information or services you request when visiting our Web site. For example, if you are requesting a product or service that we offer, or want a reply to your question or comment, then we will ask for your E-mail address, or your name and mailing address so that we may respond appropriately.

We will not share any personally-identifiable information we receive on our Web site with persons outside our department. No marketing databases will be created nor will any commercial use be made of any data we may collect.

Cookies
To use the lightbox function of this site, the browser's security and privacy settings will need to allow for the use of cookies. Normally the default setting will allow for the use of cookies.

A cookie is a small file that is kept on your computer. It enables the storage of a few bytes of information that is retrieved when you log on to the corresponding Web site. Almost all of the major Web portals and sites use cookies to personalize your browsing experience. Our Web site uses cookies as part of the lightbox feature to enable images to be recalled and stored in your lightbox for the next time you want to visit the site.

Any information in the cookie is only stored on your personal computer on your hard drive. For privacy reasons, we do not retain personal information associated with cookies. Other users of the site cannot see what is contained in your cookies either. Cookies will normally expire after a period of several months.

If your cookies are not enabled, you will still be able to browse the site, but will not be able to use the lightbox features. To turn on cookies, do the following;

Internet Explorer users - Go to Tools/Internet Options. In the 'Privacy' tab, we recommend moving the slider to Medium High or Medium. This still protects you from malicious use while providing access to cookies from legitimate sites.

Mozilla Firefox/Suite users -

  • Click on the Tools-menu in Mozilla
  • Click on the Options. . .item in the menu - a new window opens
  • Click on the Privacy tab
  • Check "Accept cookies from sites" in the cookies section
  • Save changes by clicking "Ok"
